1984 - The forward Process - New Album

1984 : The Forward Process

Kobe Van Cauwenberghe (guitar), Sakina Abdou (saxophone), Mariam Rezaei (turntables)

All three musicians sharing the same year of birth, 1984, they see its eponymous Orwellian fictional counterpart as quite reflective of our time, but they aim to translate it into gorgeously beautiful noisy utopian complex dreamlike experimental music.

The trio made it’s live debut at Summer Bummer festival in August 2025. Shortly after this, they went into the studio at Dropa House in Antwerp to record. The resulting studio album, called “The Forward Process”, features a collection of compositions by Van Cauwenberghe, arranged collectively in the studio with Rezaei and Abdou.

  • "A deliciously sounding dystopia... at times an overwhelmingly intense record. Even more than the thematic foundations or structural principles, what stands out most is how well these three understand each other musically."

  • "A fascinating ride (...) 1984 already sounds like a working band that is just beginning to explore its brilliant sonic vision." - Eyal Hareuveni, Percorsi Musicali

  • "One always has the sense that there is more to be revealed. (...) What lingers in the memory is the movement of individuals, around and through each other; a creation and negotiation of time and space." - Tim Rutherford-Johnson, Purposeful Listening
